David and Jonathan

by

I fell in love with him a long time ago, before we even knew each other in London I remember a sunlit plain, and eternal flies buzzing -- and HIM. He was a scruffy little git even then, with his long hair bound back out of his eyes, and dressed in the worst clothes I'd ever seen... Yeah, but there was something that attracted me to him...

Course he wasn't quite so cocky in those days... a humble -- when he remembered to be, that is -- shepherd lad that happened to be in the right place at the right time... and he was unconventional enough to catch the King's eye, especially after taking down the opposition's star fighter -- well, the bigger they are, and all THAT... and to fall to a scruffy brat who chased SHEEP for a living... People still talk about it today.

My father was impressed, enough to bring him home and introduce him -- WALLOP, that was it.. Instant love... all I wanted was to be with him night and day, to spend my hours, days, my whole life with him... It wasn't to be: parental interference, and all that crap about inheritance -- I could see that he'd make a better job of it anyhow, but you try telling a king ANYthing...

He sent him away. They say love can conquer everything: it might have done, too, but his life was so precious to me, I couldn't risk my father's anger, and in the end, I begged him to leave.

Thought that I'd never see him again, until that day in London, when this scruffy git of a policeman knocked on my door...

-- THE END --
