VIDDER'S NOTE:

I guess it's time I came clean--I'm a Doyle girl. Sure, Bodie is charming and buff and obviously adores his partner. But his partner is the one I'm watching. I think it's because Ray Doyle is such a contradiction. He is constantly worried about the toll the job is taking on his soul, yet he is the first to lose his temper, the first to act, often with violence. He is a crack shot, he fights dirty, and he never ever gives up. You don't want to be recipient of his wrath. But at the end of the day, he is harder on no one than himself, which makes this fierce individual all the more sympathetic. Poor guy. In some ways, it would have made more sense to use the Simon & Garfunkel version of this song, as it there would be two male voices singing instead of a girl group. But I like the guitar work in the Bangles' cover and that hard driving 80's beat seems a better fit for the lads.

[ORIGINAL NOTE: It seems to me one of The Pros' recurring character themes is Doyle's struggle to come to terms with the violence inside him. He knows that darkness is not all he is, yet he can't pretend it doesn't exist The demands of the job often brings the less peaceable parts of poor Ray's psyche to the forefront, causing him guilt and making him hate himself and his situation. "Hazy Shade of Winter" is about that struggle.]

Hazy Shade of Winter
by The Bangles

Time, time, time
See whats become of me

Time, time, time
See whats become of me
While I looked around
For my possibilities
I was so hard to please

Look around
Leaves are brown
And the sky
Is a hazy shade of winter

Hear the salvation army band
Down by the riverside
Its bound to be a better ride
Than what youve got planned
Carry a cup in your hand

Look around
Leaves are brown
And the sky
Is a hazy shade of winter

Hang on to your hopes my friend
Thats an easy thing to say
But if your hopes should pass away
Simply pretend
That you can build them again

Look around
Grass is high
Fields are ripe
Its the springtime of my life

Seasons change with the scenery
Weaving time in a tapestry
Wont you stop and remember me

Look around
Leaves are brown
And the sky
Its a hazy shade of winter

Look around
Leaves are brown
Theres a patch of snow on the ground
